It began with a family holiday in Italy.
Earlier this year, we took our daughters to Italy to see their dad's heritage for themselves, and where their own story starts.
The charm bracelets caught the girls immediately. They spent the whole trip choosing charms for the places we'd been and the days we didn't want to forget, so that when we got home the memories would still be there on their wrists.
Then they wore them back to school. After six weeks side by side, it was their way of keeping us close once the days got busy again, and ours of staying close to them.
We haven't stopped thinking about it since.
